Why arcade racers still belong on your phone
There's a school of thought that says racing games should be realistic — brake temperatures, tire wear, the works. On a phone, I disagree completely. What a mobile racer needs is feel, and arcade handling delivers it.
Neon Drift Circuit reminded me why. You slide into a corner, the car steps out, and the boost that follows a clean drift is pure dopamine. It doesn't matter that no real car behaves like that. What matters is that it feels great under your thumb.
Forgiving handling is a feature, not a compromise, on mobile. You're often playing in less-than-ideal conditions — moving vehicle, one hand, glare on the screen. An arcade racer that shrugs off small mistakes keeps you having fun instead of fighting the controls.
The trick is variety. A neon racer can drown in sameness fast, so track layouts have to keep surprising you. The good ones vary the corners and the pacing so that each cup feels distinct.
If you've written off mobile racing because it isn't 'serious,' give an arcade one a proper session. Serious isn't the point. Feeling the slide is.
